The Bahrain Bay development is expanding. A centre for luxury, it is already home to the Four Seasons Hotel, Bahrain Financial Harbour and the World Trade Centre. But the latest jewel in the crown is a more artistic and cultural offering; launched at the end of 2019, The Art Space is a creative hub and art gallery located in Bahrain Bay Wharf.
The area is an up-and-coming hub for art and luxury in the heart of Manama, creating a vibrant neighbourhood with a rich artistic and cultural scene. With the primary focus to encourage the growth and development of the country’s diverse and dynamic creative community, The Art Space provides a platform for visual arts and contemporary culture of the Arab world. And they started as they mean to go on, with their ‘Hidden Gem’ exhibition in December (coinciding with the Bahrain National Day) a successful celebration of the Islands’ young and diverse talent.
The gallery has long-term ambitions of catapulting Bahrain and the artists who live there to the forefront of the global art scene by using the space in a multi-faceted approach. In addition to the gallery, The Art Space aims to provide carefully curated events such as workshops, guest speakers, film screenings, musical performances, festivals, private parties and culinary events.
Their inaugural exhibition ‘In Between Lines: Liminal Spaces and the Female Form’ saw Latifa Al Khalifa and Zain Al Saie curate five artists whose work contests the binary depictions of gender. Following this success, the gallery is currently preparing for their next showcase; until it is announced, there will be workshops and events as usual.
