The ten finalists for this year’s Al Ula Design Awards have been announced. The Al Ula Awards were created with the aim of spotlighting creatives whose work is inspired by Al Ula and its heritage and seeks to combine it with innovative and cutting-edge design. Organized by Arts Al Ula, a part of the Royal Commission for AlUla, the award aims to preserve The Kingdom’s legacy, while fostering the next generation of artistic talent. The award winner will be announced on 7th September, while all the finalists will be exhibiting their work at Paris Fashion Week.
Participants included designers who conceptualized a range of products ranging from apparel, homeware, jewelry, and leather goods, among others. The finalists’ works are set to be shown at the prestigious Galerie MR21 in Paris, from September 8th to 16th, during Paris Fashion Week. The designs will be showcased at an exhibition created by highly- acclaimed designer Herve Sauvage, whose work includes brands such as Hermès. The winner of the Award will be announced on 7th September, prior to the exhibition.
The current 10 finalists were selected from a list of 20 participants and their prototypes were evaluated by a jury of recognized figures from the design space. Each finalist combined cultural heritage, and artistic exploration and incorporated novel design strategies into their prototypes. The 10 finalists include – Imane Mellah (Oil Lantern), Sara Hafaiedh (Heritage Incense Collection), Teeb (AlUla Terrains: Dates Serving Set by Teeb), Gunjan Gupta (Naba Tea Tiffin), among others.
