WWD

Haute Couture week 2024 kicked off in Paris and featured a range of enchanting creations from leading designers and houses. With a star-studded lineup of attendees including Zendaya, Kylie Jenner and more, the event saw a selection of magnificent pieces from designers like Daniel Roseberry, Simone Rocha, Pierpaolo Piccioli and more, couture week 2024 proved to be one for the books. Surrealism was quite a prominent theme across the runways, with many collections referencing the unknow. Some iconic moments included the robot baby at the Schiaparelli show, Robert Wun’s glittery crimson, blood reminiscent collection, and was a treat for fashion enthusiasts.

Here are the Luxe Scoop’s top five favourite shows from Couture Week:

1. Schiaparelli

Schiaparelli kicked off couture with a spacey, sci-fi inspired collection. Daniel Roseberry’s exquisite creations taps into the astrology fascination of none other than Elsa Schiaparelli herself. Elsa Schiaparelli’s uncle Giovanni Schiaparelli was an astronomer, who also happened to coin the famously used term Martian, during his study of the surface of Mars. With creations consisting of circuit boards and Y2K technology, and dresses sculpted and curved to perfection, the collection was a celebration of all things outer space.

2. Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier in recent years has seen magnificent works by a range of designers. This year, Simone Rocha’s creations took to the runway with a collection that is true to Gaultier’s roots, while including her own touch of femininity that was a slight contrast to the ever so slight provocative DNA that is observed in Gaultier creations. Bows, Nods to Jean Paul Gaultier’s sailor motifs, and the iconic cone bra infused with blush tones, crystal and pearl embellishments, the collection was a gorgeous fusion of two distinct creative imaginations.

3. Maison Margiela

Maison Margiela’s Artisanal Collection was an experience to behold for any fashion enthusiast. Designed by John Galliano, the collection was a journey in personal expression, set in a dimly lit, foggy runway. With an interplay of themes of time, light and darkness, the pieces included light jackets, unfinished wool crepe tailoring and silk organza dresses and combined form and texture to create artfully sculpted sartorial creations.  Yet another unique creation from this show was the glasslike skin that was observed on the models, mastered by none other than Dame Pat McGrath, who also took to social media last week to recreate the trending look.

4. Rahul Mishra

Rahul Mishra’s Superheroes collection was an ode to nature, with pieces featuring intricate embroideries of lizards, butterflies and dragonflies – with the designer aiming to spread awareness about environmental protection. Vibrantly hued looks featuring petri dishes, latticed windows all intricately embroidered with insect motifs, which were present also on jackets and dresses and is a nod to the interconnected nature of our ecosystem.

5. Robert Wun

The For Love Collection by Robert Wun was a look into surrealism yet again, with Wun’s love for horror films. Crystal raindrops, apparition like figures, crystal motifs that were indicative of blood, and dramatic headwear were some of the standout aspects of this collection. Armor inspired looks made of satin, exquisite beadwork, mirror shards emblazoned on a long coat in the style of The Matrix, the collection was a stunning examination of the subconscious, and the sacrifices one can make for love.
