Emirati Artist and designer – Ashwaq Abdulla – has officially expanded into the digital space with a first of its kind virtual exhibition. Titled ‘Al Mabrouka’, this stunning showcase features 10 paintings that resemble the historic lives and cultural heritage of Emirati Women.
‘Al Mabrouka’ is a name given to elderly women in society, whose wisdom and generosity abounds, proving that this digital exhibition symbolically represents the role and success of Emirati women across the years. As the first Emirati to create a mural in the UAE, at the open-air museum in Dubai, Abdulla’s art is a reflection of her personal experience of being a role model for other Emirati women.
Commenting on her new digital exhibition, Abdulla said: “My dream has always been to bring my artwork to life through movement. In this exhibition, I was finally able to integrate my love for paintings with modern day technology and artificial intelligence.”
If you’re a fan of watercolour and pastel paintings, this exhibition will excite you with its brilliant fusions of colour. In fact, each piece of artwork has been meticulously painted to display the various contributions to society by Emirati Women including their traditional clothes, adornments and jewellery. Furthermore, this new exhibition is a beautiful combination of culture, art and science enabling the meaning behind each painting to be displayed. When paired with the stunning composition by UAE music director/composer, Muhammad Al-Ahmad, this virtual presentation is a work of art in itself.
“My goal is to make aesthetes to dive deep into the painting and understand the role of the Emirati woman and the impact she had on our society throughout the generations and still. The beauty of digital exhibition is that it has no limits, similar to art. ‘Al Mabrouka’ can be seen from anywhere and anytime around the world. In cooperation with renowned Emirati composer Muhammad Al Ahmad, the exhibition will have an additional UAE flavour that will help art fanatics around the world understand and enjoy the digital exhibition” added Abdulla.

This enhanced experience allows us as the viewers to live and contemplate the colours and shapes in the paintings. To finalise the presentation, Ashwaq Abdulla has included a painting of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan – the founding father of the United Arab Emirates. He is well known for being ahead of his time regarding women’s rights and female empowerment, therefore, this painting is the perfect way to close the celebration Emirati women and culture.
