Renowned hospitality brand Mantis’ newest tourism development is the Hawar Resort – Located in Bahrain’s Hawar Island, the project will be undertaken in partnership with Edamah, the real estate arm of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Mumtalakat). The project is set to usher in a new era of luxury and eco tourism in the region, and will be open in Q3 2024. Mantis was founded in 2000 by Adrian Gardiner, a global entrepreneur and conservationist, and the brand has collaborated with Accor to work on a range of eco-tourism ventures since 2018.

This project is expected to attract a variety of visitors from all over the globe and is part of a strategic push from the Government of Bahrain to transform Hawar Island into a tourism destination, at par with the offerings of the Kingdom’s main island. Hawar island is located 30 minutes from the main island and is recognized by the UNESCO for its natural beauty. The resort is surrounded by a wildlife sanctuary, and is one of the first environmentally focused projects of this nature in the Middle East. The location is developed keeping sustainability and environmental awareness at the forefront- bearing in mind the unique environment of the island. This is done by employing initiatives such as waste sorting, biodegradable waste reuse, and water and energy conservation technologies.

Additionally, this resort is set to include 102 keys (including luxury accommodation units), extensive sports and leisure facilities, and fine dining concepts, among others. In addition to this, several partnership agreements will also be signed, such as an adventure park, a water park, and a range of outdoor activities. The resort will also have the Bear Grylls Survival Academy, offered in collaboration with renowned survival expert Bear Grylls, offering a range of activities that test visitors’ resilience and outdoor skills.  Island visitors can enjoy a range of flora and fauna – from sand gazelles, coral reefs, and Socotra cormorants, to endangered dugongs. They can also stay in overwater villas with direct access to the sea, nestled in the island’s picturesque natural surroundings.

Mantis Vice President Operations, Craig Erasmus, said, “We have witnessed a significant shift among global travellers, with people becoming more aware of the planet’s well-being and making travel choices with sustainability in mind. Mantis is the ideal brand to support this transition with our focus on curated destinations inspired by culture, conservation, community inclusion, and sustainable adventures.”
