Barbie Fever is officially upon us! With the long – awaited release of the highly anticipated film on August 10th, UAE residents donned shades of pink to watch the much-awaited movie. The movie is a colourful and lighthearted look into existentialism, patriarchy and girlhood starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, along with America Ferrera, Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Alexandra Shipp, Nicola Coughlan, John Cena, and Dua Lipa, and more.
Leading up to the film’s global release in July, there were a multitude of promotional activities including a multi city press tour featuring sensational looks from actress Margot Robbie who plays the protagonist, Stereotypical Barbie. Collaborating with stylist Andrew Mukamal and drawing inspiration from iconic Barbie dolls over the years, Robbie’s looks included pieces from Moschino, Versace, Manolo Blahnik, Valentino and more. This press tour consisted of sartorial creations that were truly timeless and iconic and reminiscent of all things pink, sparkly, and maximalist.
Here are our top 5 fave Barbie press tour looks:
Los Angeles Premiere
Margot Robbie turned heads at the Barbie Premiere in Los Angeles, with a custom Schiaparelli ensemble. Reminiscent of the 1960s special edition Solo in the Spotlight doll, the look consisted of a shimmering black strapless dress, complete with a red rose accent in a tulle hem. The look was completed with leather sandals, black opera gloves and diamond jewellery by Lorraine Schwartz.
Seoul Premiere
Yet another iconic themed look from the actress, this look was a nod to the Day to Night Barbie dolls from 1985. The first look featured a custom Versace skirt suit, complete with a white boater hat and a Versace La Medusa purse, along with a glittery pink ’80s cell phone shaped clutch by Judith Leiber. The second look included a sparkly pink Versace dress and a glittery pink Versace purse, with both looks topped off by custom Manolo Blahnik heels.
Seoul Press Conference
Channeling 1964’s Sparkling Barbie, Robbie’s look consisted of a pink Moschino Skirt Suit, adorned with crystal embellishments, a matching pillbox hat and a heart shaped purse. She topped the look off with Manolo Blahnik Mules, and accessorized with jewellery from Tiffany & Co.
Sydney Premiere Party
Our fave Barbie opted for an iconic piece of fashion history as she attended a premiere party for the film in Sydney. Wearing a metallic pink Versace chainmail corset dress, which was first worn on the runway by supermodel Claudia Schiffer in 1994, the actress finished the look with pink Manolo Blahnik heels.
Los Angeles Photocall
Her Los Angeles’ Barbie photocall look drew inspiration from the iconic doll’s wardrobe. Wearing hot pink Valentino cutout dress adorned in polka dots, which is also reminiscent of a look from the house’s SS93 collection, worn by Karen Mulder. The look was accessorized with a Valentino Garavani Rockstud bag, and white Manolo Blahnik Heels
