2023 was an eventful year for fashion – from the runway resurgence of bygone trends of past decades to TikTok-influenced trends stamped with the suffix –‘core’. Going into 2024, the nostalgia-infused 2023 trends do seem to be staying and evolving, along with a few more on the horizon. From bows, metallics, florals, the transition from 2023 to 2024 has also brought along a unique array of trends.

Giambattista Valli SS24

Bows took over 2023 in a major way, with the popularity of ballet-core or coquette-core. Bow detailing and motifs were seen all over runways. Moreover, bows have remained a central motif used by designer Sandy Liang, whose work grew extremely popular in the past year. Other major houses who have included bows into their SS24 collections include Chanel and Giambattista Valli. The explosion of bows as a trend indicates to a larger cultural shift where femininity is something to be celebrated, which was also a central focus in 2023. It will also most definitely be a staple in 2024.

Blumarine SS24

Apart from bows, yet another trend on the horizon would be metallics, according to Pinterest’s 2024 trend prediction, based on data. This is also echoed in the runway amongst many SS24 collections such as Blumarine and Ralph Lauren. Silvery metallic hues were also a prominent choice during Beyonce’s Renaissance tour, with attendees matching the futuristic theme with silver and metal-toned outfits. Apart from outfits, statement metallic jewellery, and belts have also become a popular choice in 2023 and will also continue into 2024.

Balmain SS24

Florals are also set to be in full bloom for 2024. Floral appliques also appeared on multiple SS24 Runways, including Marni and Balmain. Designers have seemed to revamp this classic by including appliques, motifs, and rosettes, rather than going for floral-printed fabrics. Mystical garden-inspired looks were observed on runways this year and can be a big staple for 2024.

2024 has several exciting fashion trends slated, with bows continuing to stay in popularity, bold metallics, and florals. While 2023 saw quiet luxury and minimalism as big talking points, it seems like 2024 will move into a more maximal and vibrant trend cycle, and greater emphasis on personal style.
