Dubai’s vibrant art scene welcomes a new wave of creativity as The Arts Club Dubai presents “That Which Does Not Belong,” a captivating exhibition by the UAE-based artist collective, Ramin Haerizadeh, Rokni Haerizadeh, and Hesam Rahmanian. The installation, comprising ten multi-media works including sculptures, collages, and paintings, offers a thought-provoking exploration of identity and societal constructs.
The collaborative trio, whose artistic journey began in Iran in the late 90s before finding a home in Dubai in 2009, challenges conventional notions of artistry by embracing a collective approach to creation. Rejecting the confines of traditional categorizations, they infuse their works with a blend of perspectives, inviting viewers to engage in a dialogue that transcends boundaries.
Ajaz Sheikh, Group CEO of The Arts Club, expressed enthusiasm for showcasing local talent, emphasizing the region’s rich artistic diversity. “It is with the greatest pleasure that we welcome a UAE-based collective of artists to exhibit at the club,” Sheikh stated, highlighting the institution’s commitment to fostering artistic innovation.
Central to the exhibition are the “Garden of Grandmothers” collages, which have undergone an evolutionary journey, exposed to the elements to intertwine with nature’s influence. These works challenge societal hierarchies, celebrating female icons of arts and culture while underscoring the interconnectedness of humanity and the natural world.
Another standout piece, “One of the Poems from Mu’Allaqats,” draws inspiration from ancient Arabic poetry, reimagining urban spaces with kaleidoscopic paintings that blur the line between art and utility. Through scenes depicting everyday life, the artists explore themes of identity and societal dynamics, prompting viewers to reconsider the notion of belonging.
Curated by Amelie von Wedel and Pernilla Holmes of Wedel Art, the exhibition is a testament to the collaborative spirit of the artists and the support of their patrons. The Arts Club extends gratitude to Snow Feinan Li, Samia Buazza, Olivier Mestelan, and Marwan Abu Manneh for their generous contributions.
For those eager to experience this transformative exhibition, non-members are invited to schedule appointments via email. “That Which Does Not Belong” will be on display until October 1st, 2024, inviting audiences to explore the boundaries of art and the myriad narratives it encompasses.
